Allan Timmermann, PhD.
Allan is a full Professor of Finance and serves as the Atkinson/Epstein Endowed Chair of Management Leadership at the UCSD Rady School of
Management. Dr. Timmermann is a very productive and visible scholar in finance and applied econometrics. He serves as an associate editor
on leading journals in finance, economics and forecasting. He uses a mix of theory, data and sophisticated econometric techniques to
understand the behavior of financial markets. Of particular interest to BrightScope is Allan's research on mutual fund performance and
the extent to which mutual fund "star" managers exist. Allan's research and knowledge of mutual funds and investment selection form the
core of the company's analysis of 401k investment menus.
Yannis Papakonstantinou, PhD.
Yannis is a full Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of California, San Diego.
His research is on the intersection of database and web technologies. Yannis has published over seventy
research articles in scientific conferences and journals, and served on journal editorial boards and program
committees for numerous international conferences. In 2000 Yannis founded Enosys Software, which built one
of the first generally available distributed XQuery processors, along with software for XML-based integration
of distributed sources, and was sold in 2003 to BEA Systems. In 2006 Yannis founded app2you.com, a web service
that allows anyone to build within minutes custom, interactive, database-driven applications. Yannis holds a
Diploma of Electrical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens and MS and Ph.D. degrees in
Computer Science from Stanford University. Of particular interest to BrightScope is Yannis' extensive
knowledge of database architecture and the ability to use collective intelligence to effectively leverage the company's data.
Bill VanDeWeghe
Bill is a Managing Director at RA Capital Advisors, a premier investment banking firm in San Diego. He heads the firm's defense industry team developing strategies for clients and executing all facets of M&A transactions and financings. Bill was previously a senior shareholder with a law firm, Klinedinst PC. During the 15 years that he practiced law, Bill worked with a broad variety of corporations throughout southern California, advising executives and business leaders on numerous issues involving their companies. Bill served as an artillery officer on active duty in the Army from 1983-1987, followed by a position commanding a firing battery in the Virginia National Guard. Bill was the Republican Party nominee for U.S. Congress, 53rd Congressional District, in 2002. He earned his bachelor's degree at Princeton University, and his law degree at the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary.

He has presented at numerous industry and government forums, including
briefings with members of Congress, Treasury, the DOL and the IRS. He serves
on the Executive Committee and as a Trustee of the Employee Benefit Research
Institute (EBRI), a non-partisan, research based think-tank focused on retirement
and healthcare. Michael is a strong advocate for increasing the utilization and
performance of workplace savings programs as a key tool to help Americans
build financial security for life.
Scott B. David
Scott David was President of Workplace Investing at Fidelity Investments until 2010. In that role, he was responsible for all aspects of Fidelity's defined contribution, defined benefit and stock plan administration. Fidelity is the largest mutual fund company in the United States, the No. 1 provider of workplace retirement savings plans, the largest mutual fund supermarket, a leading online brokerage firm and one of the largest providers of custody and clearing services to financial professionals. Scott joined Fidelity in 2003 and held several leadership positions within Fidelity Employer Services Company (FESCo). Prior to joining Fidelity, Mr. David was president of U.S. Retirement Services at Scudder Investments for Deutsche Bank in New York. Mr. David received a bachelor of science degree in business administration from Miami University in 1988. He has been the keynote speaker at various pension conferences and serves as a board member of the Employee Benefit Research Institute. He has also appeared on National Public Radio, CNBC, the Wall Street Journal, NY Times, Business Week and other major media outlets.
